Responding Creating Presenting
Understand and use appropriate descriptive vocabulary when responding to the visual world. Analyze the interaction of technical approaches, formal qualities, and contextual information create an understanding of artist’s intent. Understand why artists use different tools, materials, processes, and techniques to solve specific visual problems. Identify and explain how works of art from various societies, cultures, and time periods were used to reflect universal themes. Recognize that societies, cultures and time periods have different criteria for evaluating artwork. Identify various artistic skills and behaviors that are components essential to college and career readiness. |
Maintain a collection of ideas and sketches that demonstrate personal engagement and artistic growth. Apply a variety of strategies to generate innovative ideas for a given art problem. Compose a personal artwork inspired by master artists or informed by historical and contemporary resources. Use various strategies such as experimentation, narrative, and working from observation, imagination or memory to develop personal solutions to art problems. Use appropriate compositional devices and the formal qualities of art to organize personal solutions to art problems. Use a variety of tools, materials, processes, and techniques safely to solve specific visual problems and exhibit quality craftsmanship. Persevere in problem solving by evaluating work in progress to identify areas in need of improvement and alternative solutions. Effectively use resources and manage studio time in order to complete work in accordance with established criteria. |
Reflect upon growth shown over a period of time throughout the course of a studio experience. Using appropriate art vocabulary, compose and share a reflective statement that articulates personal choices, intended purposes, technical approaches or formal qualities used to communicate meaning.
